September 2021

September is actually one of my favorite months! It's always the perfect blend of summer-turning-into-autumn weather and, usually, I'm lucky enough to be off a fair bit because our company observes the Jewish holidays every year. I tried to maximize my free time this year by spending a lot of time with friends (including hangouts at each other's apartments, visits to the Harry Potter Store, grabbing breakfast before work and having some bookstore dates) and also getting some alone time to just indulge in my favorite pastimes (especially reading, watching anime and journaling). It's been a really lovely month!

I managed to read a lot more than usual this month, clocking in at 26 books and 20 manga volumes and everything I read was good, since I rated nothing lower than 3.5 stars. I have to break out my favorites into sections here, since I read so much and feel strongly about spotlighting every single thing I loved.

I enjoyed just about every single one of my rereads. Unearthly was the quarterly pick for the Paranormal Book Club, and it held up (but more on that in a future post). The Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Ring and Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow were fun to revisit, especially because I decided to experience them in audio format. Truthwitch and Where Dreams Descend were still excellent & I'm excited to continue both series!

I also really liked all of the manga I read! I finally read all of the volumes of Jujutsu Kaisen that are currently out, which was a fun way to revisit the story we've seen play out in the anime and it was also cool to see where the story was currently at (which is wiiiild). Same goes for Yona of the Dawn, an anime I loved and also recently rewatched, because the manga series is so good and I'm upset all over again that we didn't get another season. There are also quite a few other books that I loved last month that were new-to-me! Know My Name was our family book club pick and one of the most powerful, moving non-fiction books I've ever read. Once Upon a Broken Heart was such a fun start to a new series, and it felt so much like a modern fairytale. The Soulmate Equation was a great romance read and really got me in my feels! The Paris Seamstress is a historical fiction I've been meaning to read forever, and I'm so mad I put it off because it was excellent.

Iron Widow, Jade City, The Fifth Season and Vespertine were all really strong series starters that have me looking forward to whatever comes next. And I had such great middle grade reads too, as I finally read Eva Evergreen and the Cursed Witch, Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow and Hollowpox: The Hunt for Morrigan Crow.
