September 2020

It feels like September flew by in the blink of an eye honestly, as I've been preoccupied juggling a new work schedule where I go into Manhattan to work at our office two days a week and wrestling with anxiety, grief and exhaustion over personal hurdles and the situations in the US and the rest of the world. But there were some highlights this month, of course, including getting to spend quality time with friends, playing more Magic the Gathering, being invited to guest on the We Are YA podcast, and adopting a betta fish (who we've lovingly named Niv-Mizzet, Nivvy for short).

I was so excited when I was drafting this post and realized that I read 16 books in the month of September. My reading groove is back, friends, and I certainly hope it stays that way through the end of the year! I'm still on a very big fantasy kick (with a few exceptions here and there), and it certainly shows in the fact that my favorite books were all in the genre. I read three more Guild Hunter books this month, and two of them (Archangel's Enigma and Archangel's Heart) made the cut. I also read the third Wheel of Time novel, The Dragon Reborn, and loved that a lot. And I finally picked up my ARC of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (out on October 6), and really, really liked that as well! (Special mentions go to The Rise of Kyoshi, Skyhunter, Anxious People and A Deadly Education, which were really fun and enjoyable reads too.)

(P.P.S. I hope you're continuing to stay up to date as much as you can with everything going on in the world. Here's a helpful set of links to get you started! And I know it can get really overwhelming, so please don't forget to make sure to take a step back for your own mental health when you need to.)

  2. Wow. I envy you for reading 16 books in a month! I only have read two (that's a success for me as I've been working 8-5) - The Wolf of Oren-yaro and The Ikessar Falcon.

I hope you will have the right President this time.

  3. I remember when we got Betta fish at my middle school and then I made my mom get me one at home! I kinda want another one now. :-) Glad your reading groove is back, mine seems to be back as well. I've been going into work 3-4 days a week. I get so much more done in my library than at home, but I do like how I can sleep in a bit later when I stay home. Hope October goes well for you!
