It's time for a new gift guide! This month, I'm sharing one inspired by Four Dead Queens, a standalone fantasy release from Astrid Scholte that's being published on the 26th of this month. You'll find out a little more about this novel below, but before that, check out all the goodies I picked out!
In the kingdom of Quadara, there are four quadrants with specific characteristics linked to the people who reside there and four queens (one for each) rule over everything:
- Ludia is the pleasure quadrant, where passion and artistry are celebrated. Queen Stessa rules this quadrant, and she would find that this Morphe James Charles palette and Woodland Dress by Cynthia Rowley suit her vivaciousness to a tee.
- Eonia is a quadrant focused on technology and logic, where stoicism is greatly prized. Even so, Queen Corra would treasure this gold watch and this DNA print would remind her of the work her people do.
- Archia is the agricultural quadrant, and the people there value a simpler way of life. Queen Iris is steadfast in her work to uphold this attitude, and this Energizing Herbs candle and floral bedspread to remind her of the quadrant she loves.
- Toria is the intellectual quadrant, driven by curiosity and exploration. Queen Marguerite is no stranger to the desire to know and understand, to explore, and she would enjoy the symbolism of this telescope and this world map to add to her collection.
As a bonus, I'm also throwing in two gifts - a charm bracelet and a paint set - inspired by two more characters in the novel. Keralie crosses paths with Varin when she steals something from him for her boss. When they discover that the queens are in danger, they end up having to work together.
Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte

Publication Date: February 26, 2019
An enthralling and beguiling murder mystery fantasy perfect for fans of Red Queen and Three Dark Crowns.
Keralie Corrington is a talented pickpocket in the kingdom of Quadara. She steals under the guidance of her mentor Mackiel, who runs a black market selling their bounty to buyers desperate for what they can't get in their own quadrant. For Quadara is a nation divided into four regions, each strictly separated from the other. Toria, the intellectual quadrant values education and ambition. Ludia, the pleasure quadrant values celebration and passion. Archia, the agricultural quadrant, values simplicity and nature. Eonia, the futurist quadrant values technology, stoicism and harmonious community. Four queens, one from each quadrant, rule as one.
When on Mackiel's orders Keralie steals a particularly valuable item from a messenger, what seems like a routine theft goes horribly wrong. Keralie discovers she's intercepted instructions to murder the queens. Hoping that discovering the intended recipient will reveal the culprit--valuable information that she can barter with--Keralie teams up with Varin Bollt, the messenger she stole from, to complete his delivery and uncover the would-be murderer. But with Keralie and Varin each keeping secrets--and the lives of the queens hanging in the balance--everything is at stake, and no one can be trusted.
Astrid Scholte's fascination with all things fantasy began at the impressionable age of one while on a family vacation to Disneyland. Her desire to be surrounded by all things magical led her to a career in animation and visual effects. She received Honors in BA (Film, Media and Theater) and a Bachelor of Digital Media from the University of NSW. She's spent the last 10 years working in visual effects production as both an artist and an artist manager. Career highlights include working on James Cameron's AVATAR, Steven Spielberg's THE ADVENTURES OF TIN TIN and HAPPY FEET 2 by George Miller. She lives in Melbourne, Australia with her cats Lilo and Mickey. FOUR DEAD QUEENS is her debut novel. (Find her online: website, Twitter, Facebook or Instagram)
