Rachel of Hello, Chelly and I have teamed up to bring you a collaboration that involves two of my favorite things: New York City and food. Welcome to Table for Two, where the two of us will be highlighting restaurants and dessert spots in New York City. Today, I'll be sharing my thoughts on Rubys Cafe, while Rachel spotlights our visit to Milk Bar.
It was my friend Ruth who originally introduced me to Rubys Cafe a number of years ago, and it recently was on my radar again because my sister Rachel & I had walked past it on a visit to the area a couple of months ago. I felt like it would be a great pick for this month's feature, and I'm so glad I was right.
Rubys Cafe is a smaller dining spot that's located in the SoHo area, just off of Broadway and tucked away down a street that's relatively quiet. They usually have open air seating during the warmer seasons, but we opted to sit indoors for our visit. The interior is very simple and minimalist, though the dim lighting from evening onwards does make it a little hard to properly see all the details. It's still pretty cozy, though it can get pretty loud when it's packed (and it seems like it usually is, if our visit is any indication)!
We shared fries with truffle aioli to start, and they were flavorful and crispy and just how I like my fries. I picked the lamb ragu for my main meal, and it was a winner (though it was a little spicy for me), while Rachel had the sweet corn & bacon cous cous. It was simple fare, but it was certainly a treat to eat especially after a long day at the office.
Rubys Cafe has two branches in New York, but the one we went to is 219 Mulberry Street. Definitely consider stopping by if you're in the area!
I've been wanting to try Ruby's! My friend lives right near the other branch and we were discussing it as an option for dinner soon!
