I'll be completely honest and say that Our Dark Stars first caught my eye because of its cover, since I love the color gradient that was used for it. It's fortunate that I can say, after having read it, that Our Dark Stars is a really fun young adult read! The story centers around two characters - Princess Talia Starchaser, member of the ruling bloodline who sets off a series of events that leads to the devastation of the human race, and Will Perrault, a half-mock captain who discovers Talia's cryosleep pod floating in space and is determined to use the bounty on her head to buy his way back into the good graces of the mock queen. Obviously, there's more to the story than meets the eye, as both Talia and Will desperately fight to figure out the truth of their situations, and plenty of shenanigans ensue.
Honestly, Our Dark Stars really worked for me as a read. I'm fond of young adult sci-fi that's on the lighter side, and this fit the bill perfectly. Wade and Grey did a good job combining story elements: strong action scenes that played out in my head, adorable banter that builds up into a romance I was rooting for, humorous bits that made me crack a smile and compelling, well-paced storytelling to unfurl the rest of the plot. My only reservations are the uneven start (it took a little time for me to warm up to both points of view, though I was partial to one right away), as well as the predictability and familiar feel of some of the major plot points (to the point where I was reminded a fair bit of a few other stories I've read). Still, I had fun reading Our Dark Stars, and if you're on the hunt for something sci-fi light to read, definitely give this one a read.
