We're back for Tracking Down Tunes! Lindsey of Bring My Books & I are teaming up on this collaboration, inspired by our mutual desire to broaden our musical horizons. Basically, we both listen to music the same way: we find a favorite artist or album or track and listen to it nonstop. In an effort to diversify the music we listen to, we decided it would be fun to go out of our way to listen to new songs - and that it would be even better if we could recommend stuff to each other. So, every month, we'll be sharing our monthly playlists (for the previous month) with all of you!
One of my favorite summer activities is to go on road trips. While I welcome and relish the opportunity to go on a road trip out of town at any time of the year, there is something incredibly special about setting out early on a summer day, driving on a day filled with sunshine and watching the sun set as the road goes on in front of you. I love it so, and I've gotten to go on quite a few road trips with some of the best people in my world already! Lindsey and I both know that an excellent playlist is an essential for any length of time on the road, and so we're sharing some of our favorite road trip melodies with all of you today.
The Great Escape / Boys Like Girls - It happens without fail that, every single time that I hear this song, I always feel like I need to go, to do things. It's like an instant energy boost, and I'm always raring to get on the road whenever this song comes up on a playlist! It may be an older tune, but it still holds up for me even years later and you wouldn't be remiss about adding it to your musical rotation.
A Sky Full of Stars / Coldplay - Yes, I know this is a relatively newer tune, but I also know that it is going to be on my road trip playlist for a long, long time to come, possibly forever. There's just something about the visual of a sky full of stars; this song calls to mind driving as the sun goes down and night falls and I just can see myself in a car in that scenario ever so clearly when it plays.
Good Life / One Republic - Like the previous track, this song definitely is one that I would associate with a specific road trip moment - the end of the day, the return journey, the road home. It just seems like the right sort of song for that moment between twilight and dusk (which is normally when most of my road trips end), and it definitely also leaves the listener feeling hopeful and inspired to keep on taking to the road again and again.
Neon Lights / Demi Lovato - I like a lot of upbeat tunes in rotation when I'm in the car for long periods of time, and as this is one of my favorite songs from Demi, I just had to include it! It always makes me feel as if I should dance like no one is watching me, and that's always the best feeling. Plus, it's led to quite a few car dance parties in my lifetime already!
Kiss You / One Direction - Admittedly, I have an entire playlist of boy band tunes that I like putting on rotation when I'm on a road trip. But for this playlist, I decided to pick this One Direction song because (a) it's great for car karaoke, (b) it's great for car dancing and (c) it's quite the earworm. I can never stop humming it once I've heard it; I can't stop smiling once it plays either.
Toothbrush / DNCE - If there's a track that wormed its way onto this playlist unexpectedly, it's this one. I'm surprised by how much I enjoy the music that DNCE releases, and this song is just brilliant. I love the beat a whole lot, I love how catchy the hook is and I think that the song itself is pretty fun to sing along to. Plus, it just makes me think of young, new love and that's always fun.
Eyes Wide / Handsome Ghost - This is the newest-to-me song that I'm adding onto this playlist. Initially, it was the beat that drew me in because it's just so easy on the ears. But when I gave the lyrics a closer look, I fell even harder for this song because there's a sense of adventure and possibility that's so palpable in them.
Into You / Ariana Grande - I consider Ariana Grande songs a must on any road trip playlist, because you can dance and sing along to most of them without abandon. Of her new stuff, Into You is my favorite song so far! I find the melody really groovy, and I can't prevent myself from singing along when it comes round to the chorus.
Planes / Yuna - Rachel is the reason I discovered this song, and I love, love, love it! It's just a lovely little tune, and I enjoy Yuna's voice. I can so picture myself driving on a casual Saturday afternoon, windows down and this song on repeat - it's seriously perfect for that sort of situation.
Hands to Myself / Selena Gomez - I love Selena's latest album, because it just fits her personality and where she's at in her life so, so well. Hands to Myself has always been a standout track for
