Jump for Jojo || It's All About the Gals

I'm so excited to be rounding up this week's Jump for Jojo celebration! This event is a collaboration with some blogger buddies in order to celebrate our love for Jojo Moyes and her incredible novels. I've read three - Me Before You, Silver Bay & One Plus One - and was blown away each time.

I just love this cover
Today, I'm getting the chance to celebrate my love for Silver Bay, in particular the female characters who make up a little family - Hannah, Liza, Kathleen. I'm sure majority of readers will think of whale watching when reminded of Silver Bay, but the family aspect, particularly one comprised mostly of women, is something that personally called to me. These three characters came off the page, stubborn, smart and surprising.. Moyes captured that something special about being surrounded by strong females in your family, those that challenge and support you, and I loved it! It felt so authentic, so true to the dynamic in my own experience that I really connected with it.

I grew up very close with the females of my own family - my grandmother, my mother, my aunt, my cousins, my sisters (mostly on my mom's side, but also on my dad's too). The women in my family have all different kinds of personalities, with varying strengths and weaknesses. But there's a love and loyalty among us that is very, very difficult to break. And we share a mutual community of support and encouragement, with lots of laughs and fun times shared along the way. The girl I am today would not be the same without having these ladies in my life, and so, I'm utterly grateful for them.

some of the women in my family
While I was musing about stories of generations of women, I thought of two other titles that might be comparable reads - Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood and The Joy Luck Club. I've read Divine Secrets, and it's actually one I plan to revisit this year since it's a favorite! And I haven't read Joy Luck yet, but it's on the list of books to check out for sure. Both novels feature stories of women of different generations in a family or community. If you liked that aspect of Silver Bay as much as I did, then definitely get your hands on these two as well!

And with that, Jump for Jojo has come to an end! I hope you've enjoyed celebrating Jojo Moyes with us if you're a longtime fan, or have discovered new titles to put on your TBR if you're a newbie. In case you missed anything, here are the posts from all of the Jump for Jojo ladies:
