I haven't been super vocal about it, but I have a new home! Last weekend, together with Macky & Mel, I moved to a new apartment in Queens. While I am fond of our extremely large three bedroom apartment in the Bronx, it was just the right time for a change of neighborhood. So far, after having lived here for a grand total of five days, I can safely say I love the place, love the neighborhood and love my (much shorter) commute!
You don't realize how much stuff you've accumulated until you pack it all up. |
Honestly, packing up was a revelation because we have so much stuff. To absolutely no one's surprise, majority of the stuff we packed into boxes were my beloved books. However, we did have a good amount of household items (like furniture, storage solutions, sheets + kitchen things) in the mix too, which is really nice.
Someone's pretty pleased with his new kitchen - and cleaned it up too! |
Before we even moved, Macky and I headed over to the new apartment to clean up a little. We spent a couple of hours wiping down surfaces and organizing what little stuff we had already managed to move. It was pretty fun, even though it was a lot of work!
It was so rainy when we loaded and unloaded the truck, but cleared up when we got to IKEA. |
Sunday was moving day! With the help of our friends Jaymee and Joel, we loaded up the truck pretty quickly and headed on over to Queens. Unloading in the rain was a bit difficult, but not impossible, and quicker than we expected, we were done. After a brief break, we headed on over to Ikea for a late lunch/early dinner and then did a little shopping! We returned home, put some furniture together and unpacked a few things (including my books).
So proud of how I managed to organize my closet with limited resources! |
While I'm also very proud of the way the bookshelves look (and the overabundance of books stuffed in there is proof to me and my friend Pat who will be helping us design the interiors of our new place that we need more shelves), my biggest organizational triumph is the closet Macky and I share. We're trying to slowly but surely buy things to furnish the new place so we're on a budget. I utilized a bunch of things we already had (hangers, drawers, etc) to make it go from piles of chaos to this closet that makes me smile when I see it.
So, even with the rain and subsequent exhaustion afterwards, our move was pretty smooth. I'm so grateful for the help of our friends and family, our common need for organized rooms and just the decent amount of space in this new place. I'm looking forward to decorating our apartment even more throughout the year, and can't wait to share more with all of you!
Ahh it looks lovely! I know when we've moved as well, you realise you have SO MUCH STUFF. It's great to declutter though! ;D
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on moving!! I too love living in Queens. You get so much more space for your money and it's a quicker commute than some places that are actually considered Manhattan!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations that's so exciting! I know trying to move my books has always been a bit interesting in the past, so I'm happy to hear that went well! I'm reorganizing my books right now also, and I kind of do want to add an extra shelf or two!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Glad to hear the move went smoothly!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new home!! Sounds like a great move for you... A shorter commute is always a good thing. Sounds like you were really organized about the whole thing!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!
ReplyDeleteThat's really cool! I've never moved before but I can imagine how much work it must be. The stuff in my room alone would take a day to haul out. It also sounds like things went really well. I hope you're happy where you are now :)
ReplyDeleteGrowing up I always moved every 2-3 years, and I loved it. It was so nice to see everything I have and get rid of the stuff I don't need anymore. I've lived in the same house for almost 14 years now, and I can't stand it! I need change! Glad you had fun moving (I love IKEA!), and hope you enjoy your new place!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new house! And I hear ya on the you don't realize how much stuff you got until you pack it, lol. I moved two years ago and onlt then realized how many stuff I had. Your closet looks neatly organized! And moving books is so difficult, they certainly take a lot of space packing as well.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new space! How exciting! You're doing an AMAZING job organizing all of those clothes in limited space! WEEEEEE! - L
ReplyDeleteMoving was always an exiting experience for me. I love the new scenery and the opportunity to explore. And, while I hate packing, pulling everything from boxes and finding places for it in a new abode is fun! I'm taking notes on how you organized your closet. I'm moving next weekend, and I am seriously lacking any kind of clothing storage-- no dresser, no shoe racks-- nothing!
ReplyDeleteHooray! I just moved to Queens and so far I really like the neighborhood! Hope you enjoy the new place!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on moving to a new place! I personally hate moving but it sounds like your move went relatively smoothly! Hope you guys are getting settled!!
