Welcome to the Vampire Academy Gala! Rachel & I are teaming up for another week-long celebration, this time for the Vampire Academy series. And Vampire Academy was another winner for us! We were both really hesitant about starting the series because (1) so much hype surrounds this series and (2) neither of us are keen on vampires (with the exception of our beloved Black Dagger Brotherhood). But we both got totally sucked into the series!
This week, we'll be sharing mini-reviews of all six books, a post with all our favorites from the series and capping it off with a movie rant (yes, a rant!). Plus, we'll also be hosting a giveaway for the first book, Vampire Academy, in the hopes that more potential VA lovers will come out of the woodwork. Trust us - you should give it a shot! And if you've read the series already, we hope you'll join us this week as we celebrate a series we all have a special place for in our hearts.
But before we get to the giveaway, here are some testimonials from fellow bloggers who have loved the series as much as we did! I also decided to include why I enjoyed the series so much too.
Vampire Academy is one of my favorite series…Because Rose is one of the most kick-ass heroines I’ve ever read about. Because Dimitri is a panty-dropping Russian bastard. Because I learned it’s okay not to be stick skinny and love your curves. Because protecting your friends and being loyal speaks to my heart. Because finding the Moroi to your dhampir is an actual life task (Hi Betty!) - Kelly of Belle of the Literati
Friendship. Romance. Badassery. Humor. Who doesn't love that combination?! First there is the strong female friendship between Rose and Lissa which YAAY positive female portrayal! Then there is the opposites attract romance that will give you heart palpitations. Then there is ROSE HATHAWAY. I don't come across a lot of female characters like Rose. Characters who make mistakes, don't make the best decisions, screw up, they act before they think, they're brazen and their tongue usually gets them in a lot of trouble. Readers are really hard on female characters in general and I'm glad Richelle Mead didn't hold back with Rose and gave us more diversity personality wise when it comes to female main characters. Add in action, sarcasm and humor of course Vampire Academy is a winner.

Vampire Academy presents a whole new take on vampire lore, and it totally tickled my fancy! I fell hard for the story, with all the mystery, action and romance included. And it was definitely easy to love Rose, who is such a cool main character - smart, sassy and strong. I honestly love that Mead was able to build a hierarchy and world so believable, and characters so lovable or hate-able, and just really draw me into this story.
Okay so I totally meant to email you back and then got super busy and FORGOT. But anyway, YES - so excited to see this week long celebration because I SO ADORED VA. After I binge read it, I felt lost to not be in the moroi world anymore and had a serious book hangover! Rose is so badass, I just love her. Dimitri. Ohhh DIMITRI. Kelly puts it best when she calls him a "panty dropping russian bastard". :) Also - i'm super excited to see this movie rant because ugh, that was awful.
ReplyDeleteI'm almost done with the Bloodlines series (the spin off) and, oh my goodness, Richelle Mead is definitely one of my favorites. Have you seen the VA movie, yet? The trailers made it look a lot cheesier than it was, although it was still kinda cheesy, but I liked it! It may have been because I had low expectations, but I did like it.
ReplyDeleteAhhh this makes me so excited because I LOVE the VA books (man how I wish I had them with me at school) and I can't wait to see what else you guys have planned!
ReplyDeleteOMG I LOVE THIS!!! This is amazing (and not JUST because I'm features :)) but because I LOVE this series so hard! One of my absolute favorites and I loved reliving it with you and having flails all over again. It's basically a necessity to have somebody to text rage to :)
