Sizzle & Swoon is back today, and we're chatting about a topic I'm sure everyone who reads this blog can relate to - YA. Specifically, the three of us have made a list of the YA authors that we return to time and again! While this list is by no means conclusive (as personally, I would have to include a TON of authors on here), we tried to pick a few authors who consistently produce books that wow us!
As always, if there's a +A/+R/+S, that means more than one person endorses a choice.

ALEXA'S PICKS
Tamora Pierce - She's one of my all time favorite fantasy authors. I am so, so obsessed with her various series, as she's managed to create an entire world + cast of characters that I adore. In fact, I'm so obsessed that my friends and I have organized PierceFest to celebrate her awesomeness!
JK Rowling - This one is a no-brainer! She will always be my queen, thanks to the joy and amusement she brought me with her series. I cannot stop being amazed at how much the series impacted me, as I practically grew up with Harry and company.
Morgan Matson - She's one of my newer additions to my favorites list, but she's an amazing writer. I adored Amy & Roger's Epic Detour; it was quirky, cute and fun. But Second Chance Summer was what proved to me that she was an author I could love; it was emotional and intense and so, so poignant. I can't wait to read more from her!
RACQUEL'S PICKS
Sarah Dessen - It's Sarah Dessen. Who needs me to explain this? (+A) (+S)
Jennifer Echols - Funny and sexy YAs that were written with my name on them <3
Sarah Ockler - Sarah Ockler's books just get better with each release!
SHARON'S PICKS
Tahereh Mafi - This woman's ability to put words together in the way she does simply astounds me. Plus, she writes great kissing scenes! (+A)
Deb Caletti - Deb Caletti writes great stories with wonderfully realistic characters. I also love her writing style. (+R)
Richelle Mead - She writes incredibly entertaining books with strong female characters and massive swoons. She's also not afraid to totally rip your heart out, stomp on it, and hand it back with an I'm-not-even-sorry smile. Somehow, this makes her even more awesome. (+R)

Well JK Rowling is TOTALLY a no-brainer. Sarah Dessen & Tahereh Mafi are two of my new YA loves.
ReplyDeleteYES. JK Rowling will always have a special place in my heart, particularly because I love her series SO MUCH. I haven't re-read them in a while, so I think I'm due!
DeleteThese are some good ones--Sarah Ockler, Morgan Matson, Sarah Dessen, Jennifer Echols and Deb Caletti are all on my list. I also love Trish Doller, Jennifer Donnelly, Stephanie Perkins, Lisa Schroeder, Maggie Stiefvater and Melissa C Walker. (Okay, my list is waaaaay long.)
ReplyDeleteMorgan Matson is one of my favorite authors. I loved both of her books SO much, and I am eagerly anticipating her next one!
DeleteI absolutely agree with your picks of Stephanie Perkins (!!!) and Maggie Stiefvater (who writes beautifully).
For me it's defo Jennifer Echols, Sarah Dessen, and Richelle Mead! All of them write fun, easy to read books.
ReplyDeleteWould you believe I haven't read any Richelle Mead books? I think I have to remedy that or certain blogger friends might disown me...
DeleteYay for JK Rowling being on the list! I think my go-to authors these days are JK Rowling, Jennifer Brown, John Green, Rick Riordan and Cat Patrick. I'm loving this feature, ladies!
ReplyDeleteI've read everyone on your list EXCEPT Cat Patrick! I think that means I should check out her books, as I know we have pretty similar tastes for the most part.
DeleteI've only read one Sarah Ockler book but The Book of Broken Hearts pretty much made all the rest of her books instant reads! I need to get on that :)
ReplyDeleteI actually haven't read any of her books yet, which I definitely think needs to be remedied! I've heard great things about a lot of them, and so look forward to trying them soon.
Deletei love a lot of these, including Jennifer Echols, Morgan Matson, Dessen, and JK, but i would add Meg Cabot, Cassandra Clare, Stephanie Perkins, and Rainbow Rowell. ~daphne
ReplyDeleteRainbow Rowell is a good choice, as are Meg Cabot and Stephanie Perkins. I've read Clare's books, but I'm not a super big fan. I'll admit to being curious about The Infernal Devices though!
DeleteJenny Han, Jessi Kirby, Jennifer Echols, Sarah Dessen, Trish Doller... I feel like I am forgetting someone major! haha
ReplyDeleteoh.. Morgan Matson, Cassandra Clare, Rainbow Rowell, Tara Kelly, Mindi Scott, Kirsty Eagar, Melissa Walker... yeah my list could go on ;)
I feel so accomplished, since I've read most of the authors you suggested. The only one I haven't tried yet are Tara Kelly, Mindi Scott and Kirsty Eagar, though I've taken note of their novels :)
DeleteThe three that pops into my head are Richelle Mead, Rainbow Rowell, and Melina Marchetta! They consistently publish books that makes me fall in love.
ReplyDeleteMELINA MARCHETTA! I love her too. I only recently read her novels Jellicoe Road and the three books in the Lumatere Chronicles... and LOVED THEM ALL.
DeleteI love all your choices!! Especially Morgan Matson and Jennifer Echols--those two ladies are two of my must-read, go-to YA authors as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm just getting into Sarah Ockler and loving her, and I'm slowly but surely making my way through Sarah Dessen's catalog, too! Both are excellent!
Great lists, ladies!
Morgan Matson is a phenomenal writer! I enjoyed her first novel, fell in love with the second and am eagerly anticipating her next releases.
DeleteAhhh Richelle Mead! Though I've only read (three of her) VA, I'm excited to read more of her work. I also can't wait to read more Sarah Dessen books (I've only read Just Listen so far). And J.K. Rowling... well, that's a given <3
ReplyDeleteI hope you read more Sarah Dessen and love it! Not all of her books are favorites for me, but she has a signature style and I love it when I'm in the right mood for it.
DeleteMeg Cabot would probably be my number one. I also love Anne Osterlund, Sarah Dessen, and Elizabeth Scott-funnily these are mostly contemporary novels, which is my fave genre!
ReplyDeleteClearly ALL of you have good taste. I absolutely agree about Sarah Dessen and Richelle Mead and JK Rowling, pretty much all of these.
ReplyDeleteI think if I was to add to the list I would say Stephanie Perkins, Rae Carson, and Lauren Oliver are my go to YA authors.
