Sizzle & Swoon: Our Go-To YA Authors

Sizzle & Swoon is back today, and we're chatting about a topic I'm sure everyone who reads this blog can relate to - YA. Specifically, the three of us have made a list of the YA authors that we return to time and again! While this list is by no means conclusive (as personally, I would have to include a TON of authors on here), we tried to pick a few authors who consistently produce books that wow us!

As always, if there's a +A/+R/+S, that means more than one person endorses a choice.

ALEXA'S PICKS

Tamora Pierce - She's one of my all time favorite fantasy authors. I am so, so obsessed with her various series, as she's managed to create an entire world + cast of characters that I adore. In fact, I'm so obsessed that my friends and I have organized PierceFest to celebrate her awesomeness!

JK Rowling - This one is a no-brainer! She will always be my queen, thanks to the joy and amusement she brought me with her series. I cannot stop being amazed at how much the series impacted me, as I practically grew up with Harry and company.

Morgan Matson - She's one of my newer additions to my favorites list, but she's an amazing writer. I adored Amy & Roger's Epic Detour; it was quirky, cute and fun. But Second Chance Summer was what proved to me that she was an author I could love; it was emotional and intense and so, so poignant. I can't wait to read more from her!

RACQUEL'S PICKS

Sarah Dessen - It's Sarah Dessen. Who needs me to explain this? (+A) (+S)

Jennifer Echols - Funny and sexy YAs that were written with my name on them <3

Sarah Ockler - Sarah Ockler's books just get better with each release!

SHARON'S PICKS

Tahereh Mafi - This woman's ability to put words together in the way she does simply astounds me. Plus, she writes great kissing scenes! (+A)

Deb Caletti - Deb Caletti writes great stories with wonderfully realistic characters. I also love her writing style. (+R)

Richelle Mead - She writes incredibly entertaining books with strong female characters and massive swoons. She's also not afraid to totally rip your heart out, stomp on it, and hand it back with an I'm-not-even-sorry smile. Somehow, this makes her even more awesome. (+R)

    1. I've read everyone on your list EXCEPT Cat Patrick! I think that means I should check out her books, as I know we have pretty similar tastes for the most part.

  10. Ahhh Richelle Mead! Though I've only read (three of her) VA, I'm excited to read more of her work. I also can't wait to read more Sarah Dessen books (I've only read Just Listen so far). And J.K. Rowling... well, that's a given <3

    1. I hope you read more Sarah Dessen and love it! Not all of her books are favorites for me, but she has a signature style and I love it when I'm in the right mood for it.

  11. Meg Cabot would probably be my number one. I also love Anne Osterlund, Sarah Dessen, and Elizabeth Scott-funnily these are mostly contemporary novels, which is my fave genre!

  12. Clearly ALL of you have good taste. I absolutely agree about Sarah Dessen and Richelle Mead and JK Rowling, pretty much all of these.

I think if I was to add to the list I would say Stephanie Perkins, Rae Carson, and Lauren Oliver are my go to YA authors.
